For most families the prospect of having a baby, an innocent newborn, is undoubtedly intimidating. The money and preparations it takes is incredibly daunting for any couple trying to start their clan. This experience is increasingly difficult for military families and mothers who must go through their pregnancy and the first few years of their child's life alone. This event organized by Operation Shower helped 40 pregnant military wives.

The event was planned to assist pregnant women with husbands in the military that will be absent for at least a portion of the pregnancy. Held in Chicago on July 10th 2012, the baby shower was complete with beautiful decorations, baby clothes, and vases filled with sunflowers. The event was arranged to support and thank families with husbands serving during wartime.

One attendee, 23-year-old Hazel Jana of Wisconsin, was grateful for the shower. "One day I wore a multicolored dress and someone asked if I was trying to be Toucan Sam," she said. "But I chose it because I thought, 'This will perk up America.'" Curry added that, on a few occasions, her choice of footwear would also be an issue. "I'm encouraged by my bosses to wear these ridiculously high-heeled shoes because women say, 'I love your shoes!' So if it makes women happy, I'll wear them. But I'm still going to be me… I've tried to wear clogs and flats on TV and it hasn't gone well with my bosses."

2)    GAGA COVERS VOGUE. AGAIN: Lady Gaga recently revealed the front cover of the latest issue Vogue magazine to her 28 million Twitter followers. Photographed by Mert & Marcus," she tweeted before uploading the photo. "Who else sees me channeling [Ru Paul] on the cover of Vogue. If only I was as fierce as you [are]. I did try to come for you with that weave," she teased moments after sharing the cover, her second for Vouge. Between the magazine sheets, Gaga discusses everything from music, to her notorious "meat dress," and her upcoming fragrance line.

Luxe Layers Leave us Loving New Look’s Collection of Cardigans this Winter

One of the loveliest things about this autumn is the opportunity to start throwing on multiple layers as we start to stay warm.

A dominant fashion focus for autumn and winter is the art of layering. Designers have created ensembles that are built around the architecture of a heavily layered outfit. Knitwear, cardigans, soft sweaters over streamlined leggings are the pieces de rigour an women's coats d bulking up in this beautiful way is the most sought after look for the upcoming colder months.

One of the key features of this trend most noted on catwalks is the love of luxe. This is not, to be extremely clear, a look that is based on grunge-chic; of layering t-shirts over long-sleeved jumpers. This is about refined, luxury and delicious fabrics, slunk over each other in an elegant and effortless way. Keeping the trousers streamlined, the look stays cosy without being messy; sensually shambolic without being a shambles.

New Look, purveyors of top quality high street fashion has managed brilliantly to incorporate the look into their collections by offering pieces that are luxurious in look and feel and varied enough to create the layered effect. They offer every part of this perfectly regal winter look, complete with towering ladies boots to lift the layers to new heights.

Their Grey Foil Leopard Stripe Knitted Top is the perfect start to an outfit, glamorous, slinky and feel-good. For a standout centrepiece, the Misumi Burnt Orange and Gold Slouchy Jumper is beautifully burnished knitwear at its best. Team with a varied of chunky knit cardigans and one of their faux fur black coats for women to finish.

It is recommended that these outfits keep black trousers streamlined and low key, to allow for the silhouette to work with sophistication and elegance.

Men's underwear buying trends - shaping, dating and budgeting for boxer shorts

Men's underwear is getting as varied - and targeted - as women鈥檚 underwear collections. Men are snapping up designs tailored to smooth their waistline, divorcees back in the dating game are smartening up their undies act, and those watching the pennies are still finding good value for money if they shop carefully for their boxer shorts... So say men鈥檚 underwear and swimwear specialists Deadgo women's coats odundies.com who are watching these buying trends very closely.

Shapewear for men, the divorce rate and saving money are all influencing sales of men鈥檚 underwear on the high street, but also online.

As in women鈥檚 lingerie, there is now plenty of shapewear for men - not just to smooth a tummy or love handles, but also to make the most of their assets with so-called ergonomic men鈥檚 underwear.

Adam Davies, founder of Deadgoodundies, has seen increasing interest from customers not just in colours and patterns, but technical advances like shapewear and enhancing designs from brands like Ergowear and Joe Snyder.

鈥淪hapewear gives a man a neater torso under clothes, while ergonomic briefs and boxer shorts support the genitals with a little extra oomph and contouring. We鈥檙e not talking codpiece proportions, more upfront positioning that many men find addictive. They don鈥檛 go back to 鈥榦rdinary鈥?pants again,鈥?Adam says.

鈥淢arriage splits can also prompt men, especially older individuals, to re-assess their underwear choices. Sadly 鈥榯he missus鈥?might have put up with ancient favourites, but a hot new date will be less impressed!鈥?/p>

And Adam acknowledges that tight budgets mean some men only buy new underwear when old pairs practically fall apart. 鈥淏ut buying on a budget should never mean compromising on quality. Deadgoodundies has plenty of good quality everyday undies at reasonable prices, as well as two-pair and three-pair multipacks. Watch out too for end-of-line sales and snap up bargains there,鈥?he says.

Unlike even the biggest city retailers, online shops like Deadgoodundies.com have a huge selection of styles from strings and thongs to briefs, boxers, shorts and tops and T-shirts, giving men with a specific reason for buying far more choice in terms of colour, designs and prices.

Company Information
Deadgoodundies is an online only retailer stocking the best in designer men's underwear and swimwear from all over the world including: (in alphabetical order) Big Boys, Body Art, Bruno Banani, Bum-Chums, Clever Moda, Doreanse, Ergowear, Gigo, Gregg Homme, HOM, James Tudor, Jockey, Joe Snyder, MaleBasics, MANstore, Mey Bodywear, Mundo Unico, Nils Bohner, Obviously For Men, Olaf Benz, Pikante, PUMA, Sloggi, Solar TanThru and Zoggs. Hello From Ottawa: The Sheep Shearing Festival And Other Interesting Things To Learn About Wool

Once a year on the May long weekend, the Canada Agriculture Museum puts on its Sheep Shearing Festival. It is held on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Victoria Day weekend. After my excursion to the see the Flotilla on Dows Lake, one of the signature events of the Tulip Festival, I took a slow walk on the western shores of Dows Lake past a serene nature area towards the Canada Agriculture Museum. As you ascend up a small hill from Dows Lake towards the museum, you get a beautiful view of downtown and the eastern part of Ottawa and it's a great location for a bike ride or a stroll.

Approaching the Canada Agriculture Museum from the east you first see extensive ornamental gardens that at this time featured a variety of spring flowers and entire rows of blooming lilacs. The Sheep Shearing Festival was held in one of the main buildings and I made myself comfortable in the first row of seating right next to the stage.

It was about 10 minutes before the next round of sheep shearing which takes place every half hour during the May long weekend. The announcer introduced me to a man called Dave, one of the herdspersons at the Canada Agriculture Museum who looks after the various animals, e.g. beef cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs and rabbits. He explained to me that the Canada Agriculture Museum is a working farm and part of the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Its mandate is to teach agriculture awareness, particularly to children who have never even been on a farm.

Dave went on to explain that the beef cattle raised at the Museum are sold for reproduction and as meat. Milk from the Museum is also sold on the market and the income from these various activities helps to offset the cost of running the museum. Dave mentioned that at Easter about 12,000 people attend their special events which include an Easter egg hunt as well as a display of Easter bunnies.

There is no doubt that Dave is an expert in agriculture: in addition to working as a herdsperson for the Museum he also runs his own farm: some time ago he converted a very labour-intensive dairy farm into a less demanding beef farm, located about 20 minutes south of Ottawa. After this interesting introduction to the world of farming, the sheep shearing demonstration was just about to get underway.

The announcer asked the crowd, many of whom consisted of families with young children, what the purpose is of shearing sheep. A variety of interesting responses came forth, particularly from the young members in the crowd: "because the sheep get too hot", "because we need sweaters", finally someone said that sheep get sheared because we need their wool. Ross, a tough-looking but gentle professional sheep shearer came up on the stage, accompanied by an initially reluctant animal companion: a very woolly looking grown-up female sheep whose body posture indicated that she wasn't at all happy about being on this stage.
With the experienced grip of a professional shearer, Ross grabbed the animal by its legs, turned it around and sat the animal down on its rear end, supported against his lower legs. What I found amazing was that the sheep, that had originally been battling him and didn't want to come on stage, turned into a totally docile and compliant animal, once it was sitting on its rear end, with its front legs up in the air.

Ross and his woolly friend were soon ready for their demonstration. The announcer explained that in addition to the haircut, the sheep also receives a vaccination, an anti-parasite treatment as well as a manicure and pedicure during this process. Sure enough, Ross pulled out heavy duty clippers and the sheep's toe nail clippings were soon flying into the first row of the audience. Then the electric shearer came out and Ross started shearing the animal from the neck down. The announcer asked the crowd how long they estimated it would take to shear the sheep. A variety of responses came back, but the correct answer was 4 minutes. 4 minutes to shear an entire sheep!

Based on Ross's many years of experience, the shearing progressed smoothly from the neck to the sides, the back and the belly, and finally the entire sheep's fleece came off in one big fluffy piece. The announcer explained that fashion jackets the entire fleece weighs about 4 to 5 pounds and asked the audience to estimate the dollar value of a fleece. Answers shot out, $5, $10, even $60 for a fleece, but the correct answer is C$1.50. I could not believe it when I heard it, that an entire fleece would be worth less than $2! We found out that sheep are raised primarily for their meat, and that wool is simply a by-product that doesn't generate any significant revenue. Then the announcer invited the audience to feel the fleece and she explained that the sheep's coat feels a little greasy due to its lanolin content, a natural skin lubricant, also often used in hand creams.

Well, the sheep shearing demonstration was over, but I continued into the adjacent rooms and I happened upon a group of women who were sitting around the room, knitting, and displaying a whole assortment of home-knit sweaters, vests, gloves, socks and other garments. Wendy Steinbach from the Ottawa Knitting Guild explained to me that their organization has about 120 members (one of whom is male), and that they meet once a month to knit as a group and to discuss various knitting projects. The ladies were using a variety of materials, different strengths of wool, cotton yarn and one knitter even used cut-up strips of plastic bags to knit! Another lady explained that she pulls out her knitting when she is stuck in a traffic jam. Obviously knitting has tremendous therapeutic benefits if it is able to calm you down in a traffic jam .

We then continued to talk about all of our first knitting projects: the "boyfriend sweater". Even I, who's got absolutely no talent or patience for crafts, have knitted such a garment for a long forgotten significant other when I was 16 back home in Austria. Apparently knitting a sweater for your first love is a time-honoured ritual even on the other side of the globe!

Of course when I first learned to knit I learned the technical terminology in my native language, German, so I inquired what it means when you open up a finished garment to unravel the wool and undo your work. The ladies explained that the activity of undoing your hard work has a number of names: some call it "frogging", others call it "tinking" ("to tink" is the reverse of "to knit", hence the connection).

Dale, one of the ladies from the Ottawa Knitting Guild and Guide at the Canada Agriculture Museum, demonstrated the spinning process and she showed me how to use a "drop spindle". This manual process spins the wools without the use of a spinning wheel and Dale demonstrated that you can create a one-ply ball of wool, or you can even intertwine two threads and spin the thread in the opposite direction. She then showed me a pair of knitted mittens that had been washed in very hot water, and the wool's fibers had become intertwined, almost like boiled wool, a material that apparently has amazing cold-insulation capacity.

In the next room I met Karen Riches, who is a full-time "wool artist". Karen is an expert in all the disciplines of wool handling: spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting and felting. What makes her work really unique is that she doesn't only work with conventional materials such as sheep's wool or cotton yarn. She actually uses dog hair to produce wool which she then weaves or knits into jackets or other garments. She said many of her clients comb their dogs and give her bags full of the soft fine hair that comes from their dogs' belly. She then turns these fine fibers into spun wool that she processes into a final garment.

Karen had set up a loom on which she was weaving an intricately patterned scarf made of silk threads. She explained that her current project involves 508 threads, and it takes her about 40 hours of preparation to set up the threads on the loom while the actual production of the scarf would take about 20 hours. Altogether with one set of threads she is able to produce 7 different items, all of which surprisingly end up having different colours and patterns. When I inquired about the price of one of these scarves Karen said that they run at about $150 which I thought was not surprising, considering the tremendous effort and labour involved.

Karen mentioned that she has 20 years of spinning experience and 18 years of weaving and that she participates in a studio tour called "Crown & Pumpkin" during Thanksgiving Weekend. I was astounded at her skills and the beautiful scarves and garments that she creates. For someone like me who has very little dexterity, patience or talent in terms of manual crafts, I always admire people who are able to create such beautiful items with their own hands.

External Hard Drives - Why Are They Important ?

The advent of computers has changed numerous aspects of life, including how we interact, how we shop, how we work and even where we get our entertainment. However, for all of their benefits, computers are not without their drawbacks. One of the most visible problems with computers is the lack of sufficient data storage and accessibility to that data.

Of course, computers most certainly do have internal hard drives, but even the largest internal drive is subject to some issues, including:

? Not easily connectible outside of the host computer
? Limited portability
? Limited amounts of storage

No matter how large that internal hard drive might be, there will come a time when you have to delete stored items to make room for new data.No matter how portable your computer might, be, accessing the data stored on that internal drive is not always a simple matter. However, there is an innovative solution to these problems - an external hard drive. What do these drives offer consumers? What options might you find here?Actually, there are numerous benefits to be gained from using an external drive with your computer system.

Better Data Storage Solutions

In the modern world, it's more important than ever before that you have the right data storage solutions. In the past, only businesses really had to worry about backing up their data. The story is different today, though. With the proliferation of viruses and malware, it is all too easy for an internal hard drive to be compromised. This puts all of your information at risk.

At the same time, consumers are storing more and more types of data. Most people store personal photographs, home movies, tax information, work information, work projects and personal projects on their home computers. This information is important; therefore, it should be protected.

The best way to protect it is to back your computer up to an external hard drive. This ensures that your data is copied over, and kept safe from viruses and other external threats.Of course, this also protects your data from hardware failure. How many people have sat in stunned disbelief when they realized the hard drive of their computer was no so much useless metal and plastic?

In addition, having an external hard drive allows you to save space on your internal drive. When an internal hard drive reaches higher than 50% capacity, it slows down.As data builds up further, the slowing becomes more and more noticeable.Keeping an internal hard drive free of nonessential data is a good way to keep your system running at peak efficiency.

Better Convertibility

As mentioned previously, internal hard drives are difficult to connect to from another computer. This is an important consideration, particularly considering the latest trends of storing photos, home movies, music and other information on a hard drive. This can be overcome by using an external hard drive.

With an external hard drive, all you have to do is take the device to another computer and connect it.Then you can access all the information held on it.This is much simpler than trying to copy everything over to CDs or DVDs.It's also simpler than trying to email any of those files to another email address and sharing them that way.You will find that it is even simpler than using a thumb drive, as more data can be stored and shared this way.

One innovative factor here is the increasing number of home routers that are connectible with external hard drives. This development allows an enormous amount of convenience for computer users, as well as for many others.Even if you don't care much about using a computer or getting on the Internet, an external hard drive connected to your router offers numerous benefits. In this setup, the hard drive acts more like a server, allowing computers and other connected devices to store and share content from the drive.

For instance, a connected TV, DVD or Blu-Ray player might be able to stream music, movies and pictures right from the hard drive. This eliminates the need for burning discs, but it also increases enjoyment of multimedia files. The convenience factor is impressive, particularly with larger files that are simply too bulky for the average DVD or thumb drive to handle.

Increased Portability

The need to transport information from one place to another has grown by an incredible amount. This is obviously apparent in the computer usage of students. College and high school students certainly have an incredible need to be able to carry their information with them. This allows them to transport their data from school to ho women's coats me or the dorm room, or any other computer, for that matter. However, considering the trends in education, even elementary school students will find the benefit of portable information.

Of course, not all external hard drives are truly portable. For instance, desktop drives are made to stay in one place. While they can be moved relatively easily, the fact that they need an external power source and that they are usually a bit bulky (larger than the average paperback), makes them somewhat less easily transported than other designs.

For this, there are specific small form factors available. These are often called netbook-grade external hard drives.Their capacity is somewhat less than what you'll find with a high-end external desktop drive, but it makes up for that in other ways. Most of these require no external power source whatsoever. In addition, they are small enough that they can easily fit in a coat pocket. Some can even fit in the pocket of your pants comfortably.

A Summation of the Benefits

In summation, it is easy to see that the development and spread of external hard drives has made it much simpler to enjoy your data no matter where you might be.Greater portability, security, and ease of access are just some of the more important benefits offered by these devices. The fact that some models can work directly with a network router means that the possibilities with this sort of setup are truly limitless.

The Care And Feeding Of Die Cast Collections

There are die cast model cars and then, well, there are toys. Where is the dividing line and how to serious collectors of die cast vehicles judge the quality of their collections? Like most things, there's more to this collecting passion than meets the eye.

Die cast collectors must consider a number of factors that are shared by people in the larger collecting world. How common or rare is a piece they own, what's the condition, who made the item, is it associated with an important event or person, is it part of a complete set or one-of-a kind?

Quality Components

Since the quality of die cast vehicles has evolved over the past century, the value of a car may be related to the year it was produced. Most of the cars manufactured in the early 1900s were made with metal alloys not nearly as durable as today's metals and polymer plastics. They were simple shells, with painted exteriors and interior details such as steering wheels, seats and dashboards. In this case, owners of early die cast model cars might expect a little rust or hairline cracks on their collectible. However, the fact that they own an intact die cast car from this era is a rarity. Of course, the better the condition, the higher the value.

As die cast vehicles became more popular, they also became more detailed. Interiors of cars and trucks were faithfully reproduced. More innovations such as working steering wheels and doors were introduced. The industry became increasingly competitive and some die cast cars were treated like jewelry - polished and presented in the finest detail and packaging possible. Limited editions were introduced specifically to interest the growing number of serious collectors who could count on rarity to enhance their investment.

Getting Serious about Die Cast

A culture developed along with the number of casual and serious collectors. There were questions about how best to preserve and display die cast collections. People were interested in the value of their pieces and completing entire themed collections. For many people, die cast collecting moved from a hobby to a serious passion.

Like all collectors, the buyer is expected to be the ultimate judge of his or her die cast investment. The value of a model is women's coats often in its adherence to exact historical detail. Buyers purchase models from manufacturers they trust have done research and cut no corners when it comes to accuracy.

It's said that a perfect model is one that looks like the real thing, displayed on a showroom floor and ready to be driven away. That means paint jobs and upholstery must reflect historical reality - not the whimsy of the manufacturer. For cars of appropriate eras, working doors, trunks, hoods and other moving parts should be operational. In these matters, an educated collector has the edge on the casual buyer. Collectors not only know the details of the cars, they know which manufacturers adhere to precise detail and deliver what's promised.

Maintaining and Maturing

Collections also require care from the moment of purchase. Experts advise owners to apply a thin coat of wax to new die cast models using a very soft cloth and Q-Tips to get into the corners and crevasses. Only a light application of wax will help repel dust and clean up any hairline scratches that might mar the finish. They caution to not spray wax directly on the model because wax can build up and dry in places you can't reach - a cotton cloth instead of a chamois is recommended. Once waxed, a quick buffing makes the model ready for brilliant display.

That said, it's often the untouched die cast replica that commands the highest prices. In the collecting niche this is known as Mint in Box (MIB). All the packaging and foam that protects the model is untouched and the accompanying paperwork is saved. Some collectors find this level of "investment" isn't quite as enjoyable as handling and arranging their collections so cars can be appreciated from all angles. Of course, these cars require careful dusting with soft cloths and small, soft bristled brushes from time to time.

There are several group websites and auction sites to help collectors assess the value of their die cast treasures. Whether for pleasure or profit - or perhaps both - die cast model collectors share a love of nostalgia and accuracy for vehicles that never have to stop at the pump to keep on providing pleasure.

How To Use Fireworks Safely

Danny and his pals had made a really neat discovery. If they held a soda bottle in their hands and lit a bottle rocket inside it, they could use them like weapons.

They weren't totally dumb, either. They put on their sunglasses so nobody would get hit in the eye. They should have worn a coat of armor, too, because it wasn't long before two of the gang got hit in the face and were burned.

The pain was bad enough, but it went away. The scars on their skin will be there a long, long time.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are more than 10,000 emergency room cases related to fireworks each year. Sadder still, there are deaths.

Injuries from the intense heat of fireworks, typically harming the eyes, head, hands, arms or legs, can cause blindness, lacerations, amputations, and burns. Many of the injuries involve children under the age of 15. With the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, keep these things in mind:

Do Your Homework

* Check with your local police department to learn what, if any, fireworks may be legally discharged in your area.

* Display (Class B) fireworks are those used for public display. They are outlawed by the federal government for consumer use.

* Consumer (Class C) fireworks are legal for public sale in numerous states. These consumer fireworks include fountains, bottle rockets, cylindrical fountains, Roman candles, rockets with sticks, mines and shells, helicopter-type rockets, certain sparklers, party poppers, missile-type rockets, illuminating torches, toy smoke devices, revolving wheels and firecrackers with no more than 50 milligrams of powder.

* Remember! Even fireworks that are legal cause hundreds of blinding injuries each year. For example, bottle rockets can move as fast as 200 miles per hour, explode in midair and fly in any direction. What's safe about that?

* Find a safe and legal fireworks display conducted by licensed professionals. Even then:
-stay in the designated watching area.
-do not allow children to retrieve a souvenir shell, even one that has exploded. Shell fragments could contain dangerous explosives.

Family Backyard Pyrotechnics

* If community ordinances allow fireworks, here are precautions to take when using them:

* Always read and follow the manufacturer's directions.

* Store fireworks in a cool, dry area, hidden from children.

* Fireworks should only be lit outdoors on a smooth, flat surface, and away from structures and any flammable materials. Thousands of fireworks incidents cause millions of dollars in damage each year.

* Do not light fireworks inside a can or bottle.

* Don't assume consumer fireworks are harmless. The heat from a sparkler (1,800 degrees F) can melt gold. Imagine the harm it can do to a child's flesh or eye.

* Keep spectators at least 30 to 40 feet away before lighting fireworks. It is estimated that nearly 40 percent of fireworks injuries are to bystanders.

* Keep a water bucket or hose nearby for emergencies.

* Do not try to light a firework that misfired. Soak duds with water. Pick them up with a long-handled shovel, and put them in a nonflammable container.

* Wear hearing protection.

If The Kids Use Fireworks

* Only adults should handle fireworks. However, if you decide to let older children use fireworks under your supervision:

* Discuss safety procedures fashion coats online . Teach children to Stop, Drop, and Roll if their clothes catch fire.

* Show children how to put out fireworks by using water or a fire extinguisher.

* Never place your face or any other body part over fireworks.

* Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

* Leave the area immediately if friends are using fireworks without parental supervision.

* Do not dismantle fireworks, or try to make your own.

* Do not hold any fireworks in your hand once you have lit them.

* Do not throw fireworks.

Tips On Combing a Persian Cat

I once fell in love with a big ginger fluff ball, or technically a red haired Persian. He was the most affectionate, greedy, hysterically funny cat I'd ever had. However his grooming requirements weren't fun. I had been used to medium and short haired cats as pets and brushing was never a chore. So I decided to educate myself fast as he wasn't particularly good at grooming himself, even though, bless him, he did try.

Combing Not Brushing

A Persians fur is so dense that combing, not brushing, is the only option. A brush will just slide over the surface, only removing dead hair from the top and not getting deep enough in to the coat. A Persians hair is made up of guard hair awn and down and can shed all year long. You should use a metal comb which should have two different lengths of teeth, one short, one long. It is also a good idea to have two different types of comb. One with wide teeth, one with regular teeth. The wide toothed comb will be easier to use on your cats knots and matted areas. Once you've loosened the knotted fur you can revert back to the original comb. Unfortunately you may have to cut the knots out if their fur has become really tangled and matted. A cat's skin is very thin and sensitive so make sure you are gentle but firm.

Starting the Combing Procedure

First of all get your combs and accessories ready. Nothing is harder than trying to persuade your cat to come back for more combing if you've had to get up to find another item. It's likely they'll disappear for quite some time. Spraying your combs with Feliway Feline Spray, and letting them dry before using, is a good way to keep him calm and relaxed. Choose a time when your Persian has played before hand so he's not too energetic. Then find a comfortable seating area for you and your cat, don't make a big deal about it, just act as if you were about to watch T.V. or relax for the evening. It will make your cat feel calmer if he thinks this is part of your normal pattern. Your sofa will probably be best as your cat can stretch out and it gives you space whilst combing.

The next step is to start from the head moving down the body to the tail. Carefully comb the fur in the direction of the hair growth and in an upwards motion, which will remove the dead hair. Even though you need to be firm remember that your cat's skin is like tissue paper, be careful. The base of the tail is extremely sensitive especially in male cats that haven't been neutered. So again take care. You fashion jackets then have to comb the chest and stomach. You may be lucky enough to have a cat roll on to his back and let you do this, but it's unlikely. They're not dogs.

The armpit area gets very knotty as well so it's best to lift their front legs, supporting their weight so they don't struggle. You can then comb their underneath area. You may need to wear rubber gloves as they might claw at you with their back feet which will be very painful. Encouraging words and praising him whilst he's being combed will help. Also having his favourite cat toy near him may keep him happy too. Most pet shops and pet sites have a variety of combs to suit different breeds of cats. Hopefully if you start combing your Persian from kittenhood you will get him used to his daily routine and it will be a lot easier for both of you.

If you're going to have a Persian then every day combing is necessary. They will matt frequently if you don't, which is very painful for them, as in time it pulls at the skin. If you honestly don't think you'll be up to the daily job, then stick to owning short haired cat's as it's not fair on their health if you know you can't be bothered. Owning a Persian is a big responsibility, so be honest with yourself before you even think about looking to add a Persian to the family.

Toy Dogs In Art Part II: The Little White Toy Dog That May Have Been A Maltese!

There is a painting at the Prado in Madrid that is almost certainly a breed that we have now lost, or just as likely, it is a crossbred resulting from the inter-mixing of the various strains of tiny toy dogs. Tiny toy dogs were the playthings of the houses of fashion and the courts of the mid-seventeenth century. This little dog is white in color with a face and eyes like our present day Maltese. The solid white coat is identical to the kind of a Maltese. The painting done in 1650 is called ?€?The Holy Family of the Little Bird.?€? The artist is Murillo.

An interesting point to mention is that this little white dog in the painting has the kind of tail found on a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Even though it had the tail like the Cavalier King Charles spaniel, it probably was not that breed, because the color was white. The subject of Murillo?€?s paintings is biblical. He often included his own dogs in his paintings, or the dogs he saw around him, or even dogs belonging to the sponsors for whom he painted the picture.

It has been noted that in this particular portrait the result is fascinating. The little white dog is sitting in front of the Holy Family, looks as if he definitely adores the child, but at the same time is keeping an eye on the goldfinch which the child holds up to tempt him. I have to wonder though still perhaps it was the imagination of the painter rather than a Maltese or a crossbred of anything. On the flip side, however, it could have very well b fashion jackets online een a breed we have now lost, since it is known that these artists did tell many true to life stories through their painting.

I suppose noone can fully appreciate the portraits done by these talented artists without standing directly in front of them and with a love for great art as well for toy dogs.

Many galleries and private collections have paintings that include toy dogs. Of interest is that few of them are of toy dogs themselves. Most of the portraits are someone with a toy dog or toy dogs included as one of the natural adjuncts of the person portrayed.

One exception to this rule is the portrait of the artist?€?s dog ?€?Tump?€? by Hogarth, in the possession of the Kennel Club in London. The artist Hogarth was not exceptional because he owned dogs or toy dogs. He was just one of the few artists who displayed love for his pets as he did by including them in a good many of his paintings and engravings.

Another talented artist, Velasquez, in his painting ?€?Prince Phillip Prosper?€? in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, painted a little white dog very much like the white toy dog in Murillo?€?s ?€?The Holy Family of the Little Bird.?€? In his portrait the little white dog that resembles our Maltese sits very comfortably looking on a chair he looks as if he very much considers his own. The child in the portrait is painted in the formal manner of the time, staring out of the painting and paying no attention to the toy dog. The little white toy dog that resembles a Maltese in this portrait has one eye on the artist and an ear pointing towards the child. One interpretation of this painting was that it truly appears as if the artist included the child because he was instructed to do so, but painted the little white dog that resembles our Maltese from sheer enjoyment!

Caring For A New Tattoo

When you finally decide to get a tattoo, the first thing you'll need to do is find a reputable tattoo artist. Most tattoo artists have several designs that you can pick from. If you don't find anything you like, you can always ask him to make a custom tattoo. You should always be careful in what you choose, as you'll have the tattoo for the rest of your life. The design is very important, although not nearly as important as taking care of it.

Good tattoo artists will also clean and apply antiseptic ointment to your tattoo as they create it. Expert artists know that this helps keep the tattoo healthy. Once the tattoo is finished, the artists will wipe it down, clean it off good, and apply another coat of antiseptic ointment. Once the ointment has been applied, he will put a piece of soft tissue or cellophane over the tattoo.

Once the tattoo is finished, the artists should tell you how to take care of your new tattoo. Some of the better artists will talk to you and give you a detailed sheet with all of the information you need. If you went to a tattoo artist who didn't explain this to you, you may be wondering just what you should do. Taking care of a tattoo isn't hard as long as you know what you can and can't do.

When you first get home with your new tattoo, you should never hop right in the shower. You should keep it dry for the first few days, but also clean it every few hours. Before you touch the tattoo or clean it, you should always make sure that your hands are clean. If yo women's jackets u keep your hands clean, you won't have to worry about an infection.

You'll also want to visit your local drugstore and purchase a tube of A&D ointment. A&D ointment is the best to use. A&D will keep your tattoo clean and shiny and should be used for the first few days. Once the ointment starts to dry on the tattoo, you should wipe the old application off and apply some more. Don't rub it too hard, or you could damage the healing process. For the first few days, you should avoid using soap as well.

After 5 or 6 days, you can quit using the ointment. A&D ointment will keep your tattoo healthy, which you'll notice the first time you apply it. After you stop using it, you should use an unscented body lotion. You want to avoid body lotions that have scents, as they can easily irritate the tender skin that resides under your tattoo.

After you have used the lotion for a few days, you can stop using it. Most tattoos, after they have healed, tend to leave a scab in some areas. If your tattoo has a scab, you should be careful when you try to pick it. If you aren't careful, you could end up damaging your design. The best thing to do is you have a scab is to leave it alone. You can put A&D ointment on it if you want, as most of the time a scab will itch.

A tattoo can be a great thing to have providing you take care of it. Tattoos will stay with your for the rest of your life, unless you choose to get them surgically removed. Taking care of your tattoo now will keep it healthy and infection free in the long run. If you follow the above advice on how to take care of your tattoo you won't have anything to worry about.

Parson Russell Terrier Puppy And Dog Information

The Parson Russell Terrier or better known as the Jack Russell Terrier, is a small happy dog that loves to play and hunt. They were bred as fox hunters so they need to be extensively socialized with other pets. They may fight with other dogs but they were pack animals at one time so this trait depends upon the line and individual. They need a lot of exercise so a properly fenced in back yard designed for escape artist digging dogs is best. Giant Schnauzer Puppy And Dog Information

The Giant Schnauzer is a beautiful dog and she makes a great watch dog and guard dog. She will protect you. On the downside, she really requires an experienced handler and early socializing of pets, other dogs and children. She is a dominant dog and will continually test the waters and push the envelope of who is in charge here anyway? She is extremely smart and a fast learner. She requires space to exercise and she is not an apartment dog. At the least, she needs a properly fenced in yard, at the best, plenty of acres to run on. Some people think that she is great with children, others do not trust her, especially with children under about 13 years old. As a reminder, never leave a child unsupervised with a puppy or dog.

*Approximate Adult Size. The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the male Giant Schnauzer is 25 to 28 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 60 to 80 pounds. The female ranges from 23 to 26 inches to the withers and 55 to 75 pounds.

*Special Health Considerations. Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Giant Schnauzer is no exception. Be on the look out for Canine Hip Dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness), orthopedic problems, eye disease, toe cancer, epilepsy and bloat (Gastric Dilation-Volvulus, the second leading killer of dogs, can kill within the hour, this space is too limited for a complete explanation but you should read up on this). Feeding more then once a day and avoiding exercise right after meals may help guard against bloat. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian yearly for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

*Grooming. The Giant Schnauzer has a double coat consisting of a harsh, wiry, hard, very dense outer coat and a soft inner coat. They shed little but need to be brushed regularly. Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat, avoid mats and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.
She also needs to see a groomer occasionally for clipping.

Her ears should be checked once a week and be kept clean. If you have her professionally groomed, make sure ear cleaning and inspection is part of the package. No water or excess fluid should get in the dogs ears, and do not try to irrigate the ears. Ear cleaning is too complicated and critical to instruct here. Look for hair growing in the ear canal, excess wax, or moisture. If her ears have a discharge, foul odor or she seems to be in distress and you suspect an infection, or tumor, consu women's coats lt your veterinarian.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

*Life Span. The Giant Schnauzer can live between 12 and 15 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

*History. The Giant Schnauzer comes from Bavaria, Germany where it was known as the Riesenschnauzer. They may be a cross between the Bouvier des Flandres, black Great Danes, smooth-coated drover dogs and rough-coated shepherds. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1930.

Old Furniture Starting Your Home Project

Even the designers on TV are doing it; finding great furnishing at flea-markets, charity shops, and yard sales. Often, a wonderful piece of furniture can be had for mere dollars, especially if its finish is in desperate need of some TLC. Unfortunately, the design shows on TV dont show you all the proper steps for refreshing your finds. Take the time to do it right, and your new furniture will have friends wondering where you shop!

1. Safety first: Before you disturb any painted surface, you should think about the possibility of lead. Lead paint additives were phased out in the 1970s and women's coats 80s. If you suspect lead is present in any paint, you can find information about safety precautions and testing at epa, or by calling the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD. Even with newer surfaces, I find that a dust mask is always in order when sanding. Your lungs will thank you.

2. Sanding: Not all pieces will require sanding before repainting. My mantra is to leave well enough alone when dealing with old paint surfaces. If, however, the paint is chipped, peeling, crackling, or has other problems, you might not be able to avoid the sandpaper. A small electric hand sander is my best friend for these situations. A very light sanding (really just scuffing) can help your new paint adhere to old oil paint or a glossy surface.

3. Prep, prep, prep: The number one reason for paint failures is incorrect preparation. Time spent on prep will ensure you get a good result in the end. Make sure the surface is completely clean and dust free before you ever get the paint out of the can. If you have sanded the surface, remove dust with a tack cloth. This is a small piece of cheesecloth soaked in wax, available at your local home improvement store in the paint section. They cost around one dollar get several to keep on hand for the next project! If you cant find one, several thorough passes with a damp cloth followed by another pass with a dusting cloth can do the job. Most importantly, dont rush your prep work.

4. Taping: Carefully tape off any areas you dont want painted, and burnish the tape edges down once, firmly, with a fingernail. If you think you might have to leave the tape on for more than a day or so, use a lower adhesion tape made for delicate surfaces.

5. Priming: If the piece is unpainted, consider a coat of primer before you paint. There are excellent primers specifically made for stone and metal. Tell your paint store rep what youre painting and follow her advice. Use a good latex or oil-based primer for wood surfaces. Some wood grains (pine or cheaper grades of oak, for example) may rise after a first coat of latex, and priming improves the chances that you can avoid this. The raised grain will feel rough. If this happens, youll need to sand the grain down lightly and prime again. Dont worry; its not as bad as it sounds when you know what happened!

6. Painting: Finally, time to paint! Use a good quality paint brush. Be careful not to overload your brush with paint and put it on too thickly. This is a common mistake. Painting in thick layers can lead to ugly drips, cracks, or drying delays. Instead, paint in thin coats, allowing time for each coat to dry completely before recoating. This will give you a beautiful and strong surface.

7. Curing: Follow the instructions on your paint can to make sure your new furniture is safely cured before you begin to use it or place objects on top of it. Paints, latex in particular, can feel dry well before they really are. When in doubt, I like to wait 24-48 hours before I place my newly painted flea-market beauties into service.

Now, enjoy your new furnishings. Use them well and never fear; if they get chipped or you tire of the color, you know how to fix it!
